What is an Authorized Provider?
An Authorized Provider is a company, agency or organization who has a need to utilize American Red Cross health and safety training curriculum to provide training to their employees, members or customers. The Authorized Provider agency sends one or more representatives to American Red Cross instructor training. That instructor then teaches American Red Cross training courses to the organization's employees, members or customers. All organizations are required to sign an Authorized Provider Agreement in order to be approved to provide Red Cross programs and issue Red Cross certifications. The agreement, which is updated as changes occur, outlines mutual expectations, rights and responsibilities of the Red Cross and businesses and organizations providing Red Cross. Some of these responsibilities include providing the following:

A suitable classroom with tables and chairs, plus ample floor space for practice sessions. A carpeted floor is nice, but not required.

  • TV/DVD
  • American Red Cross Authorized Instructor
  • Textbook/workbook and required supplies for each student
  • Timely payment of invoices
  • Renting or purchasing required equipment as outlined in the instructor manual
  • Support the instructor to offer the curriculum within the program guidelines

Benefits to Authorized Providers

  • Unlimited reach opportunity
  • Flexibility in scheduling your staff training
  • Cost savings over full service or community course fees
  • The opportunity to leverage more than 90 years of life-saving expertise with the American Red Cross – a brand that is trusted and recognized as being the premier health and safety training organization.
  • Authorized providers may use the American Red Cross name and emblem when promoting and advertising American Red Cross courses.
  • Signage that can be displayed at your training facility to identify you as an American Red Cross Authorized Provider so that your members, customers and employees will know that they are receiving the best training available for their investment.
  • Support for your quality assurance efforts. The Red Cross takes steps to ensure its training standards are maintained. These steps include:
  • Providing high quality instructor training
    • Establishing and explaining all national and local policies, regulations and procedures that relate to the instructor's responsibilities, including an American Red Cross Instructor Agreement
    • Making co-teaching opportunities available to instructors
    • Monitoring of Course Record forms and other reporting forms for potential problems
    • Evaluating courses randomly by either surveying or observing the teaching of instructors
    • Providing technical support to instructors

How to become an Authorized Provider
Contact the Health and Safety Department at (954) 797-3800 to receive more information on becoming an Authorized Provider or to set up an Authorized Provider agreement. Organizations need to complete the Authorized Provider Agreement process prior to teaching any classes. It is important you notify the Red Cross office regarding all organizations on whose behalf you wish to provide training.
