Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, always looked ahead, saying, "I have faith in the possibility of something better." The legions of volunteers who have followed her lead have made the Red Cross the foremost humanitarian service agency in the world, able to make the "possibility of something better" a reality, thanks to gracious donors.

The American Red Cross, Broward County Chapter serves a vital purpose in the community. Every day the Red Cross carries out its mission of preparing families, schools, and organizations for the unexpected, teaching life saving skills, assisting military families in a crisis, and providing shelter, food, and counseling for disaster victims.

It costs...

$25 to help provide a clean up kit to a flood victim.
$50 to help replace a pillow and bed linens for one person.
$75 for a day's meals and one night in a local motel for a fire or flood victim.
$100 for groceries for a family of four for one week.
$350 for shelter and food for 50 hurricane evacuees for one day.
$500 to provide clothing and shoes for two adults and two children.
$1,800 to provide 1,000 disaster victims with comfort kits.

The Ivy Stranahan Society

Philanthropy has played a vital role at the Broward County Chapter since it was founded on July 3, 1918. Generous donors have helped us to build our local Red Cross into the respected organization it is today. Recognizing those beginnings, the Ivy Stranahan Society has been formed to honor those donors whose outstanding gifts guarantee a secure future for the programs and services of the American Red Cross of Broward County.

Motivated by patriotic pride and dedicated to the community, early Fort Lauderdale pioneer Mrs. Stranahan was instrumental in establishing the Broward County Chapter in 1918. Ivy helped lead thousands of local Red Cross volunteers in the struggle to help the victims of World War I, help veterans, and provide relief during the deadly 1918 flu epidemic. Ivy's selfless dedication to the Red Cross as a charter member led her to be named chapter chairperson in 1920, a position she held for seven years.

For further information on the Ivy Stranahan Society, please review the Ivy Stranahan booklet or call a Financial Development representative at (954) 797-3816.
